Our 31rst Anniversary

We have been married 31 years. Wow. I can't believe we  have made it this and weathered the storm.
Here are some pictures that were taken on our wedding day in 1983. We went to Maggie Valley,North Carolina for our honeymoon. I really wanted to go home to Maine and see the leaves change but we couldn't afford it so we opted for the mountains. I was very surprised at how much the mountains had beautiful foilage color. We have been back several times on our anniversaries in October.

I first met my husband when I was 20 and he was 15. He played the organ for me at Midnight Mass while I sang Oh Holy Night. He played so well that I asked him if he would come over to my house and audition for me as an accompanist for me in my nightclub act. He came over and played for me. He did not want to play for me in the nightclub. He thought my lifestyle was too fast lane for  him...which it was. So that was the end of that.

We didn't meet up again for another 4 years. By this time he was in college and I had come home briefly from a concert tour up in Maine. I was at a prayer meeting and the people there wanted to know what I needed to stay and not return to Maine. I said well, I would like a job, a boyfriend, and friends. They asked me what I wanted in a boyfriend. I told them I had made a very specific long list and had been praying over that list for awhile. I wanted a man with dark hair, blue eyes and 6 feet tall. I also had a long list of characteristics. They prayed for me and when it came time to pray for a boyfriend they prayed for a husband instead. I wanted to kick the person praying. I didn't want a husband, I wanted a boyfriend. They all laughed and thought I was funny.

So 2 weeks later I was asked to sing at a prayer meeting at the Catholic church that we both had attended for years. He didn't know that my life had changed dramatically. I was now singing in churches and no longer in nightclubs.. He listened to me sing and knew instantly that something had changed in me, that I had given my life to the Lord/Yeshua. We talked for a little bit after  and as I talked I looked up into his eyes and realized he had blue eyes. You see his eyebrows were very bushy and his eyes were deep set making his eyes appear dark, not blue. I wanted to laugh and scream at the same time. I remember saying to myself..you gotta be kidding Lord, not him..he's just a baby and 5 and 1/2 years younger than me.

He would come over every night after work and we would pray about different things. He would asked me to pray for his girlfriend, which I did, but really I had a beef about it. Really? God ..are you serious? Well, I prayed a sincere prayer and 2 weeks later she packed up and moved to New York never to be seen again. With her out of the picture, things began to move very swiftly. 8 months later we were married.

A lot has happened in these 31 years. We have raised for 4 wonderful children, buried one child, and had 3 miscarriages.  My husband led worship at church for many years. I continued to sing throughout the years. We home schooled for awhile, and was involved with music and drama in church. After the loss of Jeremy, our 5th child, things fell apart very fast. Grief consumed our lives and led us down very different paths. I returned to the stage to do musical theater.. Marital problems ovetook our marraige. It was a horrible time. In all those trying times it was our Saviour that kept us together. It was His will that we stay together, and He alone is the one who took a very broken marriage and restored it to life.

My husband is a kind man with a heart of gold. He has been my best friend for many years. We've shared a thousand laughs together. He has listened to me, tried hard to please me and comforted me in sad and anxious times. We started our relationship being prayer partners and keeping the Lord in the center of our marriage. When things have gone awry between us it always is because we have not kept the Lord at the center of our marriage, which demands putting the other persons needs first.

Maggie Valley 2014

On our anniversary, Oct  2nd, we went to a new little cuban restaurant in Eustis that my husband stumbled on. There are only 5 tables in the restaurant. It is authentic looking and the food is fabulous. After we walked down to the lake and watched the sunset.  We went back to Maggie Valley in the  middle of October by ourselves. On our way up and back we stopped in Cummings Georgia to see our son Josh and his wife. They are expecting their first child in April. We  had a great time seeing them.
